Yona Network Announces Partnership with BitcoinOS

Yona Network is pleased to announce an integration partnership with BitcoinOS!
Yona Network and BitcoinOS partnership explained
We’re excited to announce a new partnership between Yona, real-time SVM-based BTC L2, and BitcoinOS, an innovative technology for connecting Bitcoin to other blockchains using zero-knowledge cryptography. This initiative will unlock $2T of Bitcoin liquidity for the DeFi ecosystem around SVM and Solana. The integration with Yona, opens the door for SVM integrations generally, creating a bridge to the Solana L1 and other SVM chains such as Molecule, Zeus and SOON network.
The impact of this development on the Bitcoin ecosystem for web3 as a whole is significant. With its high speed and low-cost transactions, Solana's DeFi ecosystem is quickly becoming a competitor to Ethereum, even surpassing it in terms of the number of daily active users. Given the technologies, speed and focus of developers with years of experience with the SVM stack, and Solana eco's dominance of memcoin trading, this could be a real explosion. Imagine what would happen if the massive amount of liquidity locked up in bitcoin, which is under immense pressure to break out into the fastest and most efficient ecosystem around Solana, breaks out!
As says Yago, BOS contributor:
“Bitcoin isn’t just digital gold anymore. It’s becoming the backbone of the Internet of Value. We’re going from an industry in the single-digit trillions to the hundreds of trillions”
BitcoinOS changes the game. By using zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs), BitcoinOS allows Bitcoin to handle things like programmable tokens, private transactions, and even dApps. No trusted third parties, no middlemen—just pure cryptographic magic. The BOS Grail bridge, enabled by ZK BitSNARK verification, is an essential component of this integration.
The focus on functional programming and proven technology reflects Yona's long-term vision, which is now strengthened by its integration with BitcoinOS. This partnership allows the Yona team to do what it does best: accelerate, scale, innovate and make technology at the intersection of the Bitcoin and SVM worlds accessible to all.
BitcoinOS - A Perfect Solution To Bitcoin Scalability
Bitcoin is a fairly slow network. With approximately one block mined every ten minutes, the main chain can only process ~7 transactions per second (TPS). And this gap becomes even bigger when you have to wait for multiple block confirmations in the bridge implementations we have now. By comparison, Visa - the world's largest payment processing network - regularly processes around 1,700 transactions per second and can process even more when the moment demands it. Solana shows about 6k TPS. with 400ms latency, and Yona has gone even further with a latency of around 10ms. Therefore, it is logical that technical innovations are required for the liquidity of Bitcoin to be used as an ‘electronic monetary system’ for the whole world, as Satoshi described it in his whitepaper. But how can this be done without changing Bitcoin?
This is where BOS comes to the rescue. By using new and advanced zk primitives called BitSNARK at the Bitcoin level, BOS enables Bitcoin to connect to other ecosystems without forking the code. This allows Yona to interact with Bitcoin independently and provide its users with BTC payments, trustless BTC bridging and full Bitcoin security, becoming the gateway to the SVM world for BTC liquidity.
BitcoinOS Grail Bridge
BitSNARK, a revolutionary BitcoinOS technology, is thus a software library for verifying zkSNARK, a type of ZKP on Bitcoin, allowing developers to create L2 and connection with other chains drives. With BitSNARK, Bitcoin users can now create covenants - conditional payments that are only executed when the correct cryptographic proof is provided.
Covenants are the key to building decentralised bitcoin bridges - the ‘holy grail’ innovation that enables true Bitcoin convolutions. These bridges require only one honest participant in a pool of potentially hundreds of operators (1 in n) in a decentralised, dynamic and permissionless set of operators to keep your funds safe. Thus, the exchange between BTC as L1‘s and BOS L2’s takes place through the so-called Grail Bridge.
Thus, it turns out that the Grail bridge generally works by using two types of proofs: proof of transaction enablement in the Bitcoin network and proof of state transition of the bridge's smart contract on the L2 side.
Proof of inclusion of a transaction in the Bitcoin chain: Given a hash of a transaction, a proof that the transaction was mined in the bitcoin network is generated by combining the following conditions:
- Proof that the transaction was included in a particular blockchain
- Proof that a predefined number of blocks have been validated afterwards
- Proof that a known accepted block is present in the chain
Proof of state transition of the bridge smart contract on the L2 side: this proof is used in two cases: to confirm that the UTXO has been assigned to an operator for withdrawal or to confirm that the share has been released after the operator leaves. Depending on the design and security assumptions of the rollup, the evidence may be constructed as follows:
- Proof of transaction inclusion in the bitcoin network - provided that the rollup commits transaction information to the bitcoin network as a data availability layer, and that the rollup has a dispute mechanism to reject invalid state transitions.
- Proof of state persistence in the rollup smart contract - an alternative is to show that the target variable with its value was included in the smart contract store when computing the rollup block hash.
Crucially, this functionality is achievable without any changes to Bitcoin Core. The innovation here can be achieved completely permissionlessly. Through BitcoinOS, bitcoin will become a truly permissionless system for both users and developers.
About BitcoinOS
Project BitcoinOS will be a scalable network of Bitcoin L2s interconnected and united using ZK Primitives. The many projects built on BitcoinOS chains will all be interoperable. This will allow for a massive bitcoin-native economy. Bitcoin will become more than digital gold; it will be the operating system of a decentralized world.
